Why Cove?

A drive. Not a brick, a cupboard, or a server.

There are plenty of places to put a file. Very few of them are a drive on your Mac.

The external SSD

Fast. Also losable.

An external drive is a marvellous bit of kit.

It is also a thing you can leave in the other bag, the other city, the other person’s shoot.

It fills up. It fails. It does not come with you on the train unless you remembered it.

Cove is the drive, without the brick.

iCloud

A library is not a drive.

iCloud is a fine cupboard for the photos and documents Apple already understands.

It is not a volume Premiere, Logic, Capture One, or an agent can simply open.

Sync keeps a copy. Cove is the place.

Drive, OneDrive, and a VPS

Useful. Not a drive.

Google Drive, OneDrive, Dropbox: lovely for a document, a shared folder, a link.

A bit hopeless when the work is a film, a session, or a repo an agent is writing into.

A VPS is the other road. You can mount one. You are then minding a computer.

Cove is one click. The files stay in the cloud. The Mac just sees a drive.

The short version.

Five ways to keep a file. Only one of them is a drive on your Mac.

Cove is the last column on purpose. Everything else is a workaround.
